Sports Physiotherapy - Triathlon & Cycling
Athlete Matters treat all sports injuries regardless of the sport and our list of experts is growing all the time.
Our team have lots of experience dealing with all levels of cyclists and triathletes. We will be able to diagnose your injury and advise you best on how to continue training so as not to lose fitness. If your injury problems persist beyond 72 hours it is best to book a consultation. Appointments are usually available within 48 hours. Most injuries in triathlon are due to overuse and will reoccur unless the root cause is identified and managed appropriately whether this is biomechanical or due to the equipment you use.
An incorrect bike set-up can be a cause of neck, back or knee pain and consequently a reduction in power output. Your bike set-up could be optimised based upon the scientific principles of ergonomics and human biomechanics to cure or prevent pain when cycling and improve your performance.
Athlete Matters: Triathlon & Cycling
At Athlete Matters we have all the necessary expertise and equipment to optimise your bike set up. During a bike-fit assessment, you will be filmed cycling at different efforts and cadences. Your saddle height/position, handlebar height/reach and tri-bar length/angle will all be examined and adjusted as necessary to ensure that you are not putting excessive strain on anatomical structures. Most importantly your shoe/pedal cleat position will be scrutinised and optimised and if necessary we will use specially designed wedges to alter your foot tilt or correct a leg-length discrepancy.
Bike-fit Assessment
It is very common for cyclists to ride with their knees turned in or out and in some individuals this can lead to pain when power through the pedals is increased. This fault can be corrected via a wedge. So if you are experiencing pain when cycling, are new to the sport or starting to increase your mileage for an Ironman, then book an appointment with Paul at Athlete Matters for a bike-fit assessment.

"I first used Athlete Matters back in 2007, when I was seeking treatment for an injured quadricep. With their help at the clinic I was back racing at full fitness within weeks. In 2008 I also suffered a stress fracture of my metatarsals. With Paul's expertise in sports specific rehabilitation I was able to compete later that same season. I now attend weekly core stability sessions at the clinic and have regular injury preventative treatments i.e. sports massages, bike fit assessment and Pilates reformer lessons.
Duncan is now my permanent running and cycling coach, and has inspired me to continue training hard, and strive to compete at the highest level. I feel Athlete Matters has offered an invaluable service over the years and has played a vital role in my recent triathlon successes.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Athlete Matters' physiotherapy service to anyone regardless of their age or sporting ability."
