Our fully qualified physiotherapists are themselves elite athletes in a number of sports disciplines. We therefore bring our unique
understanding to the assessment and treatment we can offer our clients.We pride ourselves in our friendly, dedicated and professional
approach in our diagnosis, treatment and management of all aspects of physical sports injuries. We know that the most important goal of all
our clients is to be back competing at the highest level, and to this end we offer our services.

 

Duncan Mason - Director

Member Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Duncan qualified in 1990 and has worked in the National Health Service for much of this time. He has extensive experience having worked with a wide range of patients and conditions, specialising in diagnosis and management of musculo skeletal pathologies. His work has included Clinical Specialist roles in Upper Limb, Lower Limb and Spinal conditions, where he worked closely with Orthopaedic surgeons.

Duncan specialises in the management of movement dysfunction. He has published a systematic review accepted in the Cochrane Library entitled Rehabilitation of Hamstring Injuries and has ben invited to present his expertise at conferences Internationally.

He is the Co-Author Exercise Chapter in Tidys Physiotherapy 13th Edition. Editor Porter Published 2003 and Soul-Author revised Exercise Chapter in Tidys Physiotherapy 14th Edition. Editor Porter 2008


                         
         
 

He is registered for a PhD looking at the parameters of running gait in elite athletes and the effect of running injuries on biomechanics
using EMG and 3D gait analysis in the Gait laboratory at
Salford University, where he currently lectures in Physiotherapy.He has worked
with many international class distance runners. He is currently the Physiotherapist for his club Salford Harriers, four times National road
and cross country champions.
His specialist knowledge into managing athletics injuries comes from his extensive experience from training
and competing as an athlete, he is a 65 minute half marathon runner and has run in the elite field at the London marathon finishing in the top 30.

Duncan is also consultant physiotherapist for Manchester Phoenix Professional Ice Hockey Team

 

 

Paul Savage is a Chartered Physiotherapist, Registered with the Health Professions Council, he qualified from the University of the West of England, Bristol in 1998.

Paul worked in the NHS for 4 years and then moved into the Private sector in 2002. He has undertaken extensive postgraduate training, including Core stability, Sports Massage and is a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists.

Paul specialises in treating triathletes and cyclists, his expertise lie in assessing bike fit in relation to oversue injuries, he loves to get his allen keys out!

Paul has represented GB at Junior and Senior Level in Triathlon. He finished 13th at World Triathlon Championships (30-34 age group) 2008, Vancouver. He is also a good skier and has a lot of experience in rehabilitation following skiing injuries.

Paul understands the demands of competitive sport and the frustration of
injury. His clients benefit from a combination of advanced manual therapy skills, injury prevention exercises and training advice based on his own personal experiences as a triathlete and physiotherapist






  Johnny Gilby is a Chartered Physiotherapist, Registered with the Health Professions Council.

Johnny graduated from Birmingham University and initially worked as a junior physiotherapist in Oldbury and Smethwick. He relocated to Manchester in 2005 where he currently works as a Senior Physiotherapist in the NHS.  Johnny is a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists and Association of Chartered
Physiotherapists in Sports Medicine. He is currently studying for his postgraduate diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine. Johnny's experiences as an elite athlete (he finished 13th in the National Cross-Country Championships 2007) fuel his dual ambitions of gaining a Great Britain vest and getting you back to full fitness!

 Johnny is also known as the king of core stability -come to the athlete matters ™  athlete core stability class Wednesdays to see what he can do with a Swiss ball!

Gemma Murphy

Gemma joined athlete matters in 2008 having previously worked as a senior physiotherapist in the NHS in Warrington. She has post gradfuate training in Orthopaedic Medicine, she is a trained Pilates instructor and is also a memeber of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physaiotherapists, she also specialises in running injuries.


Gemma's insight into running injuries again comes from her experiences competing and training as an elite athlete, she competes for Sale Harriers, her best results have come in the marathon finishing 24th in the 2007 Flora London Marathon. Gemma has also competed in triathlons with some success.











Ritchie Barber

Registered with the Health
Professions Council,

Member Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Ritchie graduated from Salford University with a first class
honours degree in Physiotherapy. His experiences have led
his developing an insight into managing performance in
swimmers and disabled athletes.

Ritchie competed at the highest levels in the pool at World
Championships and Paralympic games culminating at Sydney
2000 where he was narrowly beaten into the silver medal position.






























 

Barry Richards is a Chartered Podiatrist and
Member of the Health Professions Council. Barry qualified
as a podiatrist in 2003 from Salford University where he is
currently completing his PhD investigating the relationship
between foot biomechanics and running injuries,

As a Chartered Podiatrist and researcher in the field of
running injuries Barry is highly qualified to perform gait
analysis. Importantly he can interpret information gained
from running gait which may help in the diagnosis of injury.
He will also use this information to advise you on running
shoe choice and if necessary will provide custom made
foot orthoses to control biomechanical abnormalities.
The
system he uses to analyse running gait can also analyse
cycling position and help resolve any resulting biomechanical
problems.

Having competed in Triathlon for 20 years, Barry a 3
times Ironman Triathlete,
understands the demands of
endurance sports, the frustration of being unable to train
and the importance of being injury free
